Lattice Optimized Brake Pedal Study

Lattice Optimized Brake Pedal Study

The following presentation reviews the design and development of a Lattice Optimized (LO) automotive brake pedal. The goal of the study was to compare the potential weight savings from utilizing a lattice optimization approach along with validating the simulation results. The brake pedal was chosen because load history was available and the part has been heavily used in racing for multiple seasons. Load data and a successful baseline component provided a good case to test the lattice optimization approach. The lattice optimized pedal was then printed using Additive Manufacturing (AM) and subsequently tested for both stiffness and fatigue life. The results of the testing and correlation to FEA simulations will be presented.
