Modeling Corona Discharge using VSim Simulation Software

VSim, is a multi-dimensional, multi-physics simulation software tool, available through the Altair Partner Alliance, that can model a wide variety of electromagnetic related problems. VSim correctly computes the electric field in free-space and dielectrics due to boundary conditions and self-consistently generated fields from charged particles. In this webinar, you will learn how to set up a corona discharge problem in VSim. The set up includes the initialization of a seed electron, inclusion of collisional processes between electrons and neutrals which lead to the formation of a plasma, secondary emission due to electrons and ions impacting a variety of surfaces, and establishing any dielectrics in the simulation. VSim can correctly compute the electric field in the dielectrics. We will then show you how to analyze the data in VSim once the simulation has finished.

Tech-X presents a highly efficient method of predicting multipacting for RF design optimization with the FDTD PIC code VSim. Multipaction is a commonly encountered problem RF engineers face, that causes significant damage to RF structures, in which there are very often no analytical solutions. Therefore, often the only way to predict multipacting is by using numerical solvers.

VSim 9.0.2 Features

VSim 9 introduces a more extensive set of reactions, rapidly modelled using the no-time-counter method. The latest version of VSim computes surface fields with even more accuracy than before.
