E-Mobility, Electrification, E-Motor Trends, and Simulation-driven Innovation at CWIEME 2018
When CWIEME Berlin, the leading event for coil winding, electric motor and transformer manufacturing technologies, opened its doors last week, we knew immediately that Altair with its electromagnetic simulation and multiphysics optimization solutions was at the right place. Even more than in the previous years, you could feel the spirit of innovation in the six halls and the ever growing demand for new ideas, products and technologies. Altair was more than happy to meets this demand with its solutions to shape the future of how to design innovative products for e-mobility, electrification, and the transformer industry. The Altair booth featured the latest versions of Flux, Altair's low frequency EM solution for electromagnetic and thermal simulations, included in the HyperWorks suite and FluxMotor, an easy to use 1D tool for motor pre-design. Altair's Embed and system simulation solutions were presented with an actual electrical motor, created and showcased by Duco Pulle. Last but not least, trade show visitors could also take a close look at a 3D printed copper inductor by PROTIQ which was exhibited at the Altair booth.
Simulation-driven Innovation at CWIEME
As CWIEME Berlin's official "Simulation-driven Design" Ally Altair also hosted a specialized session on simulation-driven design and multi-disciplinary optimization on the CWIEME Central Theater stage. The Altair session featured presentations from Gevasol about the custom design of electromagnetic devices using simulation, Schneider Electric about the use of Flux 2D and 3D for accurate computation of load losses in a power transformer and PROTIQ, presenting its 3D printed copper inductor and its development process. The session was rounded out with presentations of Altair's CTO Uwe Schramm and Vincent Leconte, Altair's Director of Business Development - EM Solutions. All presentations given during the ATCx - Simulation-Driven InnovationTM of Electric Machines and Equipment will soon be available for download on the event page.
The talk of the day was – as expected – e-mobility and the increased need of electric machines and equipment to foster this trend. This was also reflected in EV Momentum, a new three-day summit dedicated to the changing supply chain of the electric vehicles market offered in parallel to CWIEME. Here, Vincent Leconte presented how Jaguar Land Rover uses multiphysics optimization to design a more electric world with Altair tools and processes.
Startup Initiatives for E-mobility
Also up on the EV Momentum stage, Altair's Senior Vice President, Global Automotive and Industry Verticals Team was part of the judging and expert panel of the "The Pit Stop/Pitch Up: New voices, nascent technologies, invasive talent?" session, in which Dr Aleksas Stuikys Chief Engineer and founder of RETORQ Motors Ltd. and Morten Rynning CEO and Founder, CityQ presented their start-up pitches on fully recyclable and scalable e-motors (Retorq) and new e-mobility concepts (CityQ). The PitStop/Pitch Up session also provided the perfect platform to talk about Altair's own start-up initiative, offering technical start-ups easy access to HyperWork licenses and Altair University training material. This year, RETORQ Motors Ltd. won the audience vote and could take home the first ever EV Momentum Pit Stop award. The official Global CWIEME Start-up Award went to Koob Testsystem GmbH and was handed over by Vincent Marché, Altair's marketing director for EM solutions.
All Altair activities were well received by the audience and the booth was always buzzing with visitors interested in learning more about simulation-driven design and multiphysics optimization of electrical devices.
